Sony Ericsson to Add China, US Developers; Expand Market Share

Sony Ericsson plans to increase its number of development staff in China and the US, according to a March 1, 2011 report by the Bloomberg. It is reported that Sony Ericsson has already increased its development staff in Beijing by 60% to 1,600 and in California by three times to 300. Sony Ericson also plans to more than double its global market share of Android mobile phones to at least 25%, up from the current 14%. New Sony Ericsson mobile phones to be released in China are projected to be distributed by China United Network Communications Group, the parent company of China Unicom, aiming to leverage the company's WCDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access) network. It is reported that the company is also in talks with China Mobile over offering new TD-SCDMA (Time Division Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access) based devices in China.
